How you can help translate #Jan25

If you have a Twitter account, can read and understand a little Arabic, and can write English (or any other language), then you can help translate tweets from and about the anti-government protests taking place in Egypt. Doing this, you can help the people who speak your language gain a better insight into what is going on and the discussion taking place on #Jan25.

UPDATE 16/2/2011: You can now curate and translate Libya #Feb17 here: and #Bahrain #Feb14 here:

We have 9 easy steps to translating tweets:

  1. Sign up for Curated.By – – a tool we’re using to pull tweets out of the #Jan25 stream for translation
    1. Add your Twitter account details
    2. Visit our bundle of Tweets:
    3. Find a tweet to translate and hit “Comment”
    4. Check the “Tweet this comment to …” box. This is important because it means your translation will go back into the #Jan25 feed for other people to read
    5. Write your translation in the comment box. Try to keep to <120 characters (you will see the counter)
    6. Add hashtag #AR2EN (identifying your tweet as a translation from Arabic > English) or #EN2AR (identifying English > Arabic)
    7. Add hashtag #Jan25 to ensure your tweet will be read by people following #Jan25 (#Feb14, #Feb17) on Twitter.
    8. Post!

For the more adventurous, install the Curated.By extension - - for Google Chrome and help us pull tweets into the stream for translation. DM @Meedan or email
