Meedan is a nonprofit social technology company. Meedan’s mission is to forward cross-cultural understanding and collaboration by providing people, partners and communities with advanced technologies to exchange ideas, information and knowledge across languages, focusing primarily on English and Arabic.

The Arabic word ‘meedan’ – ميدان – means ‘a town square’ or ‘gathering place.’

Meedan provides digital gathering places, building tools and spaces to connect communities in a variety of contexts. Our programs cover the following fields:

• Inter-faith: fostering new models of inter-faith discovery, dialogue and research for the digital age
• Education: developing sustainable approaches to cross-cultural knowledge exchange
• Microfinance: nurturing citizen connections to support Middle East entrepreneurship
• Media: pioneering cross-language citizen curation and media sharing for an empathetic global society
• Poetry: enabling cross-language poetic encounter and dialogue in South Asia and the Middle East
• Translation: building tools and community to bridge diverse linguistic communities online
