E-Mediat: Tools, Technology and Training is a new technology training and capacity building program developed in response to Secretary Clinton’s announcement of Civil Society 2.0, an initiative which helps grassroots organizations around the world use digital technology to tell their stories, build membership and support, and connect to their community of peers around the world. E-Mediat builds the capacity of local organizations to advocate for their work, sustain their programs and find creative solutions to shared challenges. The program delivers targeted, cutting-edge training and coaching to a diverse group of over 220 NGOs in order to build their digital infrastructure and capacity to use new media effectively. This is accomplished through a series five workshops are conducted over the course of a year using curricula designed specifically for the E-Mediat project by social media expert Beth Kanter. Topics include an overview of New Media tools and technologies, developing a social media strategic plan, websites and blogs, social networks and online communities, digital film and activism, and text messaging and civic engagement. Training started in May 2011 and is supplemented by webinars and lectures by local social media experts as well as the Online Learning Community, developed by Meedan, a portal which will serve to connect E-Mediat participants and staff.
