Meedan’s bilingual news website enables users to read and discuss translated news commentary from both Arabic and English sources. The news site stories provides a window into media discussion about a given event in both Arabic and English media, including traditional news outlets, reader comments, social media, and citizen journalism. Users can request translations for news links and post comments, which are translated using our hybrid translation model. The news site allows readers to see an event from a diverse range of perspectives, and to engage in dialogue with users who speak a different language.

The Meedan website uses a hybrid translation model which combines machine and human translation. Everything posted to the site is translated by our machine translation engine and queued for human translation. Meedan users and our translation community can then improve the machine translation, with edits feeding back into the translation memory for future reference. This translation model helps to improve the quality of Arabic-English machine translation on the web, further enabling cross-lingual exchange and collaboration.
