From February 24-27, people from across civil society, government, and the corporate sector will come together for RightsCon 2025 to discuss how we can advance human rights in the digital age. Three Meedan team members will join the summit, hosted by Access Now in Taipei, Taiwan.

Meedan will host a Day Zero session focusing on assessing the impact of studies on harmful online content, and our team members will speak on panels focusing on crisis response efforts in Gaza and gendered disinformation during elections. You can also find us at our booth in the Community Village.

Methods Workshop: Impact assessment approaches and tools for harmful content researchers & practitioners

Crisis response: An interactive workshop on the Gaza experience

  • When: February 26, 3:15pm
  • In this workshop, tech and digital rights groups discuss the critical role of civil society and journalists in combating misinformation, preserving digital content, and providing life-saving support during the Gaza war. 
  • Speakers will include Meedan’s Haramoun Hamieh along with colleagues from WITNESS, 7amleh, and SMEX.

Trends in gendered disinformation in digital media during elections

  • When: February 26, 12:45pm
  • Where: 202B
  • The session seeks to build a shared understanding of trends and patterns of violence against women and gender nonconforming people during elections in Argentina, Pakistan and Togo. As part of the roundtable, panelists will share learnings related to (a) using technology in the form of tiplines to collect data to develop an in depth understanding of gendered disinformation, (b) engaging communities and audiences to build an understanding of gendered disinformation during elections and (c) trends of gendered disinformation across languages and countries.
  • Speakers will include Meedan’s Shalini Joshi (moderating), Catherine Gicheru of the Africa Women Journalism Project, and Hyra Basit of the Digital Rights Foundation.
