Our mission

We envision a world where the fundamental right to seek, receive, and impart information is fully realized for everyone, regardless of their language, location, or income. To make this vision a reality, we develop tools and projects that allow communities to connect, collaborate, and build knowledge together.

How we work

We build our tools and projects hand in hand with independent media, civil society, and human rights organizations across the globe, with a focus on groups based in the Larger World.

We integrate community input on design, language, safety, and security so that our partners can build knowledge and exchange information in their local languages and contexts and protect the rights and safety of their communities.

Our work is rooted in the following core values:

Work globally

The internet transcends physical borders and those marked by language, class, race, gender, and more — so should our work.

Respect context

Our tools and programs will be most effective when they’re built by the communities who use them.

Embrace impact

We are committed to a collective push toward positive, systemic change in connection with our shared mission and in pursuit of tangible outcomes.

Maintain independence

We provide clear information about our funding sources and remain dedicated to independence, accuracy, and transparency.
