Alexandre Amorim is the lead front-end engineer at Meedan, where he carefully transforms product designs into engaging and interactive multilingual user interfaces. He holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science and has prior experience developing devices and video games.


Amaralina Xavier is the senior program manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Meedan. Certified in project management for development professionals, she has 15 years of experience in social impact and communications. Previously, she led the advocacy pillar of Meta’s economic development program in Latin America and co-founded a nongovernmental organization for civic education.

Bill Lim is Meedan's go-to-market strategy and user insights lead for our new AI platform, Suwali. He is focused on sustainable growth tightly aligned with our nonprofit values and mission. His background spans over a decade in enterprise sales and product leadership across software as a service and AI, bringing products from concept to market and scaling adoption.
Brian Fleming leads product development at Meedan, guiding strategy for technology platforms that help organizations combat misinformation and connect with communities. A University of Virginia graduate in cognitive science and philosophy, Brian previously held technology and product leadership roles at early-stage startups across varied industries.

Caio Almeida holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil. He is a software engineer with nearly 20 years of experience and a long-standing involvement in open source.


Daniele Valverde is a junior front-end engineer at Meedan, where she helps build and improve user-facing interfaces. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Federal University of Bahia, where she developed a strong foundation in software development and problem-solving.


Danielle Queen leads human resources at Meedan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hiram College, where she majored in sociology and anthropology with a focus on gender studies. With a strong executive support and project management background, Danielle specializes in organizational processes and policies, implementation management, and whole-person HR support.


Dima Saber is Meedan’s executive director. She has a Ph.D. in media studies from Paris-Panthéon-Assas University. Previously, she held a number of academic positions in Lebanon, France, and the U.K. and was, until recently, a reader in media studies at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research. Dima has led Meedan’s programs in the Larger World since 2012.


Dr. Scott A. Hale is the director of research at Meedan. He seeks to bridge the gap between academia and practice to create meaningful impact for Meedan's partners, programs, and products. He is also the director of the Oxford Internet Institute, a department of the University of Oxford, where he is an associate professor and leads the Equitable Access to Quality Information Lab, which conducts and publishes original research in the areas of natural language processing and machine learning.


Dwight Knell leads operations at Meedan. He is a Master of Public Policy graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School. Previously, he acted as program lead for the Credibility Coalition, a startup committed to improving information ecosystems and media literacy.


Ellery Roberts Biddle leads editorial and technology policy work at Meedan. A former fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, Ellery has led numerous nonprofit media projects covering technology and human rights around the world and has written for The Guardian, Slate, and The New York Times, among other publications. She is a co-author of “Auditing AI,” a book on algorithmic accountability forthcoming from MIT Press in 2026.

Haramoun Hamieh leads Meedan's projects in North Africa and Western Asia. He studied political science and international relations and took roles in several media organizations for over 15 years.

Ilya Verbitskiy is a machine learning and AI engineer at Meedan. Before falling in love with artificial intelligence, he led development for multiple e-commerce startups, driving innovation in product and engineering. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of the People.


Ivan Grant is the controller at Meedan, where he oversees the organization's financial operations. He brings with him over 20 years of senior finance experience, including a decade focused on the nonprofit sector. He holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in finance, and he most recently served as director of finance at ChooseU, a workforce development nonprofit.


Ivy Njoki is currently working as the partner solutions manager and program manager for sub-Saharan Africa at Meedan. She’s passionate about the notion of using tech for good, and she holds a Bachelor of Science in information technology while also possessing specialized training in AI governance and ethics. Previously, she worked as a back-end developer for Premier Academy, an international school in Kenya, and she contributed to Mozilla’s Swahili Common Voice platform.


Jéssica Gomes is a customer success and quality assurance manager on the product team at Meedan. She holds a master’s degree in project management from the University of Sao Paulo and a degree in management from the University of Campinas. Her experience combines technical skills with an ability to represent the customer’s voice within internal teams. She is also passionate about extensively testing products and uncovering bugs.


Kipp Jones works at Meedan as a senior graphic designer and is responsible for developing and maintaining Meedan’s visual identity and design direction. For 14 years previous to this role, he co-founded and directed Wild Ilk Design Studio, a company focused on meaningful applied art and design.


Manu Vasconcelos is a software engineer who focuses primarily on back-end development but also enjoys working with DevOps and front-end technologies. She has contributed to open source projects and was privileged to give a lightning talk at RubyConf.

Martin Peck has over a decade of experience in systems engineering. At Meedan, he applies these skills toward ensuring the security and performance of internal and public-facing systems.

Matthew DeMarco is the communications manager at Meedan. He has 10 years of professional experience in marketing and communications for corporate and nonprofit institutions, and he holds a Master of Fine Arts in writing. Having previously worked in education, Matthew currently volunteers in his community as a literacy tutor.


Megan is Meedan’s director of strategic partnerships. She has worked for The Globe and Mail, CTV News, and Al Jazeera English, and she holds a Peabody Award for her work on Netflix’s “Patriot Act” series. She has a Master of Science from the Columbia Journalism School.


Sawy is a senior software engineer at Meedan with a background in web development and team leadership. He graduated from Cairo University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in computer and information science. Before Meedan, he worked as a team lead at Al-Masry Al-Youm, SuperMama, and Mirqah and as a senior engineer at OpenCraft.


Noha Daoud Ghobril supports operations at Meedan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Cairo University. Previously, she worked in software quality control and project management, where she focused on optimizing workflows and supporting cross-functional teams.


Shalini Joshi leads Meedan’s regional work and global network in the Asia-Pacific region. She is the co-founder of Khabar Lahariya, India's only independent, digital news network available to viewers in remote rural areas and small towns. Shalini supports and trains civil society groups and fact-checkers on digital literacy and journalism.


Sneha Alexander is Meedan’s senior program manager for the Asia-Pacific region. She has extensive prior experience in data journalism, fact-checking, and policy analysis, and she holds a master’s degree in public policy.


Terry is a research scientist at Meedan, where he develops and evaluates language models. Previously, he was a research data scientist working on climate risk models and carbon credit research at MSCI Inc. He holds a Master of Science in social data science from the Oxford Internet Institute — a department at the University of Oxford — where his research focused on climate journalism.

Zahraa Dirani is a program associate. She has 10 years of experience in media and communications. She previously worked with several local and regional organizations in Western Asia as a media and communications officer, covering humanitarian and feminist causes. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism and media, Zahraa continued her studies and obtained a master's degree in media and communications from the Lebanese University.
